A PDF keeps text and drawings as sharp shapes, which is great for reading and printing but awkward when you need a picture. Messaging apps, social networks, slide tools and many website builders work with images, not documents.

When a page becomes a JPG, it is “flattened” into pixels at the resolution you choose. Higher DPI gives sharper text but larger files: an A4 page at 150 DPI is about 1240×1754 pixels, while 300 DPI gives about 2480×3508 pixels.

    How pages are rendered

FormatYeti uses pdf.js, the open-source PDF engine built by Mozilla that also powers Firefox’s built-in PDF viewer. It handles fonts, vector graphics, embedded images and form fields. Pages are rendered one after another, so you will see progress on long documents, and transparent areas are placed on a white background.

    Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is opened and rendered entirely in your browser. That makes this tool suitable for contracts, statements and other private documents.

Which resolution (DPI) should I choose?

72 DPI for quick previews and thumbnails, 150 DPI for most screen uses, and 300 DPI if you will print the image or need small text to be readable when zoomed.

Can I convert only one page?

Every page is converted, but you can download just the ones you need. Each page has its own Download button.

My PDF is password protected. Can I convert it?

Not at the moment. Open it in a PDF reader, enter the password and save or print an unprotected copy, then convert that copy here.

How large a PDF can I convert?

There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Documents with hundreds of pages at 300 DPI need a lot of memory, so on phones it is better to use 150 DPI for long files.
