Saved an image from a website and got a .webp file that your editor, slide deck or upload form refuses to open? This tool turns it into a standard PNG. Transparent areas stay transparent, and the conversion happens on your device, so even private screenshots stay private.

Google introduced WebP in 2010 to make web pages load faster, and today most large sites serve their images in it. Browsers handle it well, but plenty of desktop software, older versions of Microsoft Office, many print shops and some upload forms still expect PNG or JPG.

PNG is the safer choice when you want to keep editing an image, because it never throws away detail. If the WebP was saved in lossy mode, converting to PNG will not bring back what was already lost, but it guarantees nothing more is lost from here on.

Why websites give you WebP files

When you right-click an image and choose “Save image as”, your browser saves exactly what the server sent, and for most modern sites that is WebP, even when the original upload was a JPG or PNG. Some sites even rename the file to .jpg while it is really WebP inside. This tool reads the actual file contents, so a mislabelled file converts just as well.

    Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to convert my images here?

Yes. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using its built-in image decoder. Your files are not uploaded to any server, and you can even disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded.

Will the PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes. PNG supports full alpha transparency, so transparent and semi-transparent pixels are copied exactly as they are in the WebP.

What happens to animated WebP files?

PNG cannot store animation, so you get the first frame as a still image. If you need the animation, keep the WebP or convert it to GIF instead.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the WebP?

PNG is lossless: it stores every pixel exactly. A lossy WebP achieves its small size by discarding detail you mostly cannot see. A PNG two to five times larger is normal.

Can I convert many WebP files at once?

Yes. Select or drop as many files as you like. They are converted one after another, and the Download all button packs the results into a single ZIP file.
