TIFF to JPG Converter

Scanners, cameras and fax software often save TIFF files, which are large and will not open in most browsers, phones or upload forms. This tool converts TIFF to JPG directly in your browser. Multi-page TIFFs become one JPG per page, and your files never leave your device.

TIFF has been the standard for scanning, printing and archiving since the 1980s. It can store images without any loss, in high bit depths and with many pages in one file, which makes it reliable but heavy. A single A4 scan at 300 DPI is easily 25 MB.

JPG is far smaller and opens everywhere, which makes it the better format for emailing a scan, uploading a document photo to a form or posting a picture online. At quality 90 the difference is not visible on normal photos and scans.

    Multi-page and fax TIFFs

A TIFF can hold several pages, for example a multi-page scan or a received fax. Each page is saved as its own JPG, numbered in order. Small preview images that some scanners store inside the file are skipped.

FormatYeti reads TIFF with UTIF.js, an open-source decoder that runs in your browser. It handles uncompressed, LZW, Deflate (ZIP), PackBits, JPEG and CCITT fax (Group 3 and 4) compression, in black and white, greyscale, colour and CMYK.

    Frequently asked questions

Are my scans uploaded to a server?

No. The TIFF is decoded and converted entirely in your browser. That makes the tool suitable for ID scans, contracts and other private documents.

What is the difference between TIF and TIFF?

None. They are two extensions for the same format. Both .tif and .tiff files work here.

My TIFF has several pages. What do I get?

One JPG for each page, named with the page number. Use Download all to get them together in a ZIP file.

Why is the JPG so much smaller?

Most TIFFs are uncompressed or use lossless compression, while JPG discards fine detail you normally cannot see. A JPG 10 to 30 times smaller than the TIFF is normal.

    What happens to transparent areas?

JPG cannot store transparency, so they are filled with the background colour you choose, white by default.
