How to merge, split and reorder PDF pages
Last updated: 4 November 2026
PDFs are made to look the same everywhere, which also makes them feel hard to change. Yet the most common jobs, putting several files together or taking a few pages out, do not need Acrobat or any other paid program. Two small tools and a little planning cover nearly everything.
Merging: several PDFs into one
Typical reasons: an application that accepts a single file, a cover letter that belongs in front of a CV, or twelve monthly statements you want in one archive. With Merge PDF:
- Add the PDF files with Choose files or drag them into the box. You can add more at any time.
- Put them in the right order with the ↑ and ↓ buttons, and remove any you do not need with ×.
- Click Merge PDFs, then Download PDF.
Pages are copied exactly as they are. Text stays selectable and sharp, and images are not re-compressed.
Splitting: taking pages out
With Split PDF you choose between two modes:
- One PDF per page turns every page into its own file. Handy for a scan that contains several separate documents.
- Page ranges gives you one PDF for each range you type. Separate ranges with commas:
3is a single page,2-5is pages 2 to 5, and8-means page 8 to the end.
To extract just the pages you need, for example the signature page of a contract, type that range and download the result.
Removing a page
There is no separate delete button, but splitting and merging do the job together. Say you want to drop page 5 from a 12-page document:
- In Split PDF, choose Page ranges and type
1-4, 6-. You get two files: pages 1–4 and pages 6–12. - Add both parts to Merge PDF in that order and merge them. The new document has 11 pages.
Changing the page order
The same trick moves pages around. Split the document with One PDF per page, add all the single pages to Merge PDF, arrange them with the arrows, and merge. For a long document it is quicker to split into a few ranges and only reorder those, for example 1-2, 3-10, 11 when page 11 should come right after page 2.
Why are the parts so big?
After splitting, a five-page part is sometimes almost as large as the whole original. That is normal: fonts and images used on a page must be included in every file that uses them. If a file is too large to send, run it through the PDF compressor afterwards.
Common questions
- Are my files uploaded? No. Both tools open and save the PDFs inside your browser, so contracts, medical letters and ID scans stay on your device.
- Can I merge password-protected PDFs? Not directly. Remove the password first, for example by opening the file in a PDF reader that lets you save an unprotected copy, then add that copy.
- Can I add photos as pages? Turn them into a PDF with JPG to PDF first, then merge. See how to combine photos into one PDF.
- Is there a page limit? No fixed limit. Very large documents, hundreds of megabytes in total, can be slow on phones because everything happens in your device’s memory.
